Fatal Collision Involving Tractor-Trailer Crossing Centerline
Working with accident reconstruction expert Thomas Langley of Thomas Langley & Company in Woodstock, Georgia, our team visualized a collision in which a tractor-trailer crossed the centerline on a rural desert road and struck two oncoming vehicles.
Mr. Langley provided a photogrammetry dataset of the crash scene along with the motion sequence developed from his reconstruction. Our work was to put that sequence into motion within a site model built from the photogrammetry data.
On an open rural road, the geometry is much of the case. Sight distance, the point at which the departure began, and the closing speeds between vehicles are difficult to convey from scene photographs and testimony alone, and a measured site model lets those relationships be shown at a scale a jury can follow.
