Self-Balancing Board Power Loss | Confidential Settlement

Working with James Holliday of Holliday Karatinos Law Firm in Lutz, Florida, our team visualized the sequence of events in a case involving a self-balancing electric board that lost power while in motion. Without power, the board could no longer hold the rider upright, and he was thrown forward onto asphalt.

An orthomosaic and point cloud of the scene were provided to us, giving us measured geometry of the roadway surface and the surrounding area rather than an approximation built from photographs. That data was used to construct a 3-dimensional model of the site, and a character representing the plaintiff was posed and positioned within it to show the fall sequence from the loss of power through contact with the pavement.

A fall of this kind happens in under a second, which makes it difficult to describe from the stand and difficult to convey from scene photographs. The animation presented the mechanism at a speed a viewer could follow, in a site model built to scale.

The plaintiff underwent shoulder surgery as a result of his injuries. The case settled favorably for the plaintiff before trial.
