Speeding motorcyclist causes a t-bone collision
Attempting to beat a red light, a motorcyclists speeds into an intersection causing a t-bone collision with a left-turning SUV. The motorcyclists eventually sued the SUV driver’s employer.
Law firm Adams Coogler hired our team to help illustrate the opinions of their Defense expert.
The Crash Animation Studios team performed a scene acquisition of the crash scene in order to construct an immersive 3-D environment for the animated visuals. This entailed flying a drone over the area of the crash scene. The drone captured a series of photographs of the crash scene. These photographs were then used to construct a “point cloud” - that is, a 3-D representation of the scene. An “orthomosaic” areal image was also constructed using the drone images. These assets were integrated into a 3-D graphics environment to set the stage on which the Defense expert’s motion sequences would unfold.
With the 3-D environment constructed, our team was even able to place a virtual camera at the same location as the traffic camera, which recorded the action.
Time-Distance analysis
Working closely with the Defense expert, our team was able to bring to life his time-distance analysis, which was based on an analysis of the traffic camera video as well as the SUV’s airbag control module data. A visual of the subject incident, as well as an alternative scenario showing how the accident would have been avoided had the Plaintiff not been speeding, were completed and in agreement with the opinions of the Defense expert.
The case ultimately settled before trial for a confidential amount.
